چکیده

A configuration map is defined and computed, mapping all conflgumtions of a part before an elementary manipulative operation to all possible outcomes. Configuration maps provide abasis for planning the operation sequences which occur in parts-feeder designs or in more general sensorless manipulation strategies for robots. Sequences of elementary operations are represented as matrix-products of configuration maps for the individual operations. Efficient methods for searching the space of all operations sequences are described. As an example we consider a class of parts feeders based on a conveyor belt. Parts arrive on the belt in random initial orientations. By interacting with a series of stationary fences angled across the belt, the parts are aligned into a unique final orientation independent of their initial orientation. The planning problem is to create (given the shape of a part) a sequence of fences which will align that part. We demonstrate the automated design of such parts feeders.

Robotic control of sliding object motion and orientation

Precise reorientation and repositioning of sliding objects presents an interesting control problem. It is necessary to understand these control issues in order to perform several robotic manipulation tasks. These tasks include maneuvering sliding payloads and reorienting objects witihin the grasp of a manipulator. In each case, it may be necessary to precisely control the object's position and ...

Reactionless Path Planning Strategies for Capture of Tumbling Objects in Space Using a Dual-Arm Robotic System

This paper presents strategies for point-to-point reactionless manipulation of a satellite mounted dual-arm robotic system for capture of tumbling orbiting objects, such as out-ofcommission satellites and space debris. Use of the dual-arm robot could be more effective than the single arm when there is no provision for a grapple fixture or the object is tumbling. The dual arms can also provide d...

Planning Velocities of Free Sliding Objects as a Free Boundary Value Problem

In this paper, a novel planning method is proposed to solve initial velocities of the free sliding object for given initial and final configurations. Finding the desired initial velocities for free sliding objects is a key step for implementing impulse manipulation and multi-agent dynamic cooperative manipulation. The motion of free sliding objects on a plane is governed by friction forces and ...

Dexterous Manipulation: A Geometrical Reasoning Point of View

| This paper addresses the problem of dexterous manipulation of objects using an articulated hand. We describe some geometric reasoning techniques that can be applied to solve active compliance tasks. In this context, ne motion strategies are derived from the positions and forces between the grasped object and the ngers of the hand. Our approach is based in the minimum power principle of the gr...

Grasp analysis of a four-fingered robotic hand based on Matlab simmechanics

The structure of the human hand is a complex design comprising of various bones, joints, tendons, and muscles functioning together in order to produce the desired motion. It becomes a challenging task to develop a robotic hand replicating the capabilities of the human hand. In this paper, the analysis of the four-fingered robotic hand is carried out where the tendon wires and a spring return me...
